About the Band
Maus Middle School opened in the Fall of 2010 and is named after Mrs. Libby Cash Maus. The school is located in Frisco, Texas and is a part of the Frisco Independent School District. The elementary schools that currently feed Maus MS are Sem Elementary, Tadlock Elementary, and a partial amount from Mooneyham Elementary and Norris Elementary.
The Maus Wind Ensemble is a very esteemed program in Frisco and the state of Texas. In 2017, the Wind Ensemble advanced to the state level of the Texas 2C Honor Band competition, one of the highest honors in the state. The 2015-2016 Wind Ensemble was named a Commended Winner in the Foundation for Music Education “Mark of Excellence” contest, and the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 Wind Ensembles were named National Winners, chosen as one of the best from around the nation!
The Maus bands also receive consistent sweepstakes awards at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contests each year. Most recently the Wind Ensemble was named “Best 2C Varsity Band” and “Best MIddle School Band” at the Peak Festival at the Eisemann Center in 2017. The Maus Symphonic Band and Concert band were also named “Best in Class” at the “Beach Within Reach” contest in the Spring of 2015.
The Maus MS “Sound of Pride” Band opened in 2010 with 120 band students in grades 6-8. By Fall 2017 the band program has grown to around 275 members! The Maus Band is the largest organization at Maus Middle School. There are three 7th and 8th grade bands, whose membership is based on musical ability and not by grade level. Beginning Band classes are divided into like-instrument classes in order to teach instrumental skills more efficiently and include: Flute, Oboe/Bassoon, Clarinet, Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium/Tuba and Percussion beginner classes. We also offer a Beginner Jazz Band in March every year, and have the Jazz Collective and the Jazz Band that begin in October.
